August 1, 2006 Dear Friend of Safe Kids Washoe County: Safe Kids Washoe County and the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise would like to invite you to share a very special and important event on Friday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the parking lot of Baby Depot/Burlington Coat Factory, at 4015 South Virginia Street in Reno, as we will be officially launching a campaign called Not Even For A Minute. Based on a national program, the campaign is designed to educate the public through posters and brochures about the dangers of leaving children unattended in and around vehicles including:
Since 2000, more than 1,000 children have died nationally in cars in these types of non-traffic accidents, and in northern Nevada we have had three backover deaths since November 2005. The event will feature the unveiling of the posters and informational brochures for the Not Even For A Minute campaign that will be distributed throughout Washoe County. The campaign materials feature local children representing the diverse populations in northern Nevada. There will also be demonstrations of the dangers including the severity of blind spots in a vehicle and the short time required for an automobile to become dangerously hot. The Not Even For A Minute campaign has already garnered much support in the northern Nevada community including commitments from: Rotary of Reno Sunrise; Washoe County Child Death Review Team; Reno Toyota; Blue Moon Promotions; Subway; Coldstone Creamery; Nevada State Fire Fighters’ Association; Frontier Financial Credit Union; Burlington Coat Factory Baby Depot; Washoe County School District; Sparks Police Department; Q& D Construction; The Solace Tree; Colonial Bank; Washoe Medical Center; Washoe County Department of Social Services; Reno Sparks Indian Colony; Drinkwater Law Offices; Washoe County District Health Department; Indian Health Services; City of Reno Department of Parks and Recreation; Pyramid Lake Police Department; Reno Police Department; and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Marci Burke at 775-626-1604 or Jon Greene at 775-626-3266.
