June 8, 2006 – The Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) was recently honored with the Outstanding Influenza Program award during the ninth annual Silver Syringe awards hosted by the Northern Nevada Immunization Coalition (NNIC). REMSA received the award for providing flu and pneumonia shots to homebound adults who might otherwise go unvaccinated. NNIC hosts the Silver Syringe Awards to celebrate and recognize immunization efforts taking place in local communities. “It is a great honor to be recognized by such admirable organization such as the Northern Nevada Immunization Coalition,” said Patrick Smith, REMSA president. “REMSA looks forward in continuing to work with NNIC and provide the community with an immunization service that is needed for many of its residents.” NNIC is a non-profit, community organization dedicated to promoting health and preventing disease through immunizations. The organization works to decrease the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases for children, adolescents, adults and seniors in northern Nevada. The organization was established in 1995 in response to the extremely low immunization rate of Washoe County's two-year-olds. Today, NNIC is a diverse partnership of more than 100 dedicated members representing health and childcare organizations, public health and social service agencies, volunteer and community service groups, schools, businesses and individuals. REMSA is a private, not-for-profit emergency medical services system serving northern Nevada. REMSA’s state-of-the-art 9-1-1 dispatch communications center is fully accredited, as are all emergency medical transport services of the company. REMSA provides quality patient care with no taxpayer support or other subsidies. |
