May 20, 2004 - As part of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority) is hosting a babysitting class for 25 youths between the ages of 11-16 years old. The class is a one-day, eight-hour program that covers important childcare topics.

The class will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the REMSA Auditorium located at 450 Edison Way in Reno.

This class provides specialized training and skills preparation for youths so that they can deliver the highest quality of childcare during any emergency situation while babysitting. The skills they will learn include:

  • Proper steps to take in an emergency
  • Basic first aide
  • CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • Safety tips
  • What to do if a child becomes sick
  • Age-appropriate activities
  • Growth and development stages for children
  • Home safety measures

The class is sponsored by Port of Subs. Participants receive a CPR completion card; a portable, magnetized mini dry erase board and marker to record important information and instructions, a KidCare tote bag; a certificate of completion; and lunch provided by Port of Subs.
