October 4, 2002 - REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority) Point of Impact volunteers will be working together with the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, law enforcement officers, the Nevada Highway Patrol, and several local businesses to keep children traveling safe this weekend and early next week. The trained Point of Impact volunteers will be inspecting child car seats for proper installation and usage at all upcoming checkpoint locations in Carson City, Reno and Truckee, California. The Office of Traffic Safety and 16 newly trained technicians from various state agencies have undergone 32 hours of training to become nationally certified in child safety seat inspections.

“This month we have strategically stationed four child safety seat checkpoints in accessible locations throughout northern Nevada and Truckee, California for all families with children 8 years and younger to go through,” said Eric Guevin, Director of SAFE KIDS Washoe County and Community Education Director for REMSA. “We hope parents will visit one of the checkpoints to not only register their child for a free Nevada Prepaid Scholarship but to insure their child’s seat is properly installed to keep them safe while traveling on the road to college.”

The Point of Impact program is funded in part by a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
