May 17, 2002 In celebration of Emergency Medical Services Week May 19-25, Help Is Just A Heartbeat Away, REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority) will be hosting a Point of Impact child safety seat inspection, Heartsaver Friends and Family CPR Class and launching Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) into all Washoe County high schools. Emergency Medical Services Week highlights the accomplishments of the men and women nationwide that dedicate themselves to saving the lives of others and to educating the public about how and when to utilize EMS services. This years theme Help is Only a Heartbeat Away addresses the successes and challenges EMS service organizations face today not only in responding quickly and effectively to medical emergencies, but also to meeting special local needs and the ongoing challenge of educating the public in how to live safe and healthy lives. The Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics at REMSA are exceptional people, said Patrick Smith, President of REMSA. Their commitment and dedication to providing quality lifesaving emergency medical services everyday help make a difference in the thousands of lives in our community and I am very proud of them.
