April 12. 2002 - Today, REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority) will be partnering with The Salvation Army to host a Mother of Twins Point of Impact child safety seat inspection and replacement program. All mothers who have twins are encouraged to come by the checkpoint at The Salvation Army located at 1931 Sutro Street from 2 p.m. 4 p.m. Trained staff and REMSA volunteers will be inspecting child car seats for correct installation and usage to make sure all children of families in our community leave safely. REMSA will be hosting another Point of Impact child safety seat inspection and replacement program this Saturday, April 13 at the Nevada Hispanic Services located at 3905 Neil Road from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. REMSA will have trained volunteer translators who are bilingual in Spanish, and available to communicate with all Hispanic families who come through the checkpoint. Here in Washoe County, approximately 98% of all children are improperly restrained in child passenger seats, these statistics are scary and real, said Eric Guevin, Director of Education for REMSA and Director of SAFE KIDS Washoe County. Children have to rely on adults to help protect them from danger and REMSA is working to expand the Point of Impact outreach efforts to all families of different cultures and economic backgrounds to help make children safer. The Point of Impact child safety seat inspection and replacement program regularly hosts checkpoints where safety seats are inspected for correct installation and usage. Car seats and booster seats found to be unsafe or on a national or manufacturers recall list will be removed, destroyed and replaced at reduced costs and/or free of charge to qualifying families. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. |
