March 29, 2002 - D.E.A.D.D. (Demonstration Education Against Drunk Driving), kicks off its fifth year of the drinking and driving prevention campaign in partnership with REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority), the Reno Police Department, the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) Fire and Care Flight. D.E.A.D.D. educates local high school students that driving while intoxicated, or riding along as a passenger with a drunk driver, is a deadly mistake.

For the past five years, REMSA and Care Flight have performed extractions at several local high schools. This will be the first D.E.A.D.D. demonstration this year. It will be held on Friday, March 29, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Hug High School (football field) located at 2880 Sutro Street (Sutro and McCarran) Reno, Nevada.

Statistics

  • In 1999, there were 307 fatal crashes in Nevada that resulted in 350 deaths and 129 fatalities from alcohol related crashes.
  • In 1999, 56 of the traffic fatalities in Nevada were teens between the ages of 15-20 years old.

All statistics were provided by the 1999 Nevada State traffic fatality report.
