March 29, 2002 - REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority) and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will host a Point of Impact child safety seat inspection and replacement program this weekend. All families who purchased a Graco SnugRide infant car seat between August 31, 1999 and February 28, 2002 are encouraged to replace their defective infant car seats. Graco Childrens Products announced this week a recall of 918,930 SnugRide infant car seats equipped with a base manufactured in the USA during this time. To view seat models recalled see Graco website at www.gracobaby.com. Trained staff and REMSA volunteers will be inspecting child car seats for correct installation and usage to make sure all children of families in our community leave safely. Parents with children 8 years and under who participate in the car seat checkpoint will have an opportunity to register their child for a full ride Nevada Pre-Paid Scholarship Tuition to any Nevada University. REMSAs Katie the Koala will greet children while parents are getting their child car seats inspected. The check point will be held Saturday, March 30, 2002 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on the corner of South McCarran and South Kietzke Lane. According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, approximately half of all parents are making a mistake when it comes to proper child restraints. Currently, 33 percent of all children 14 years of age and under are in the wrong kind of restraint for their age and size. In addition, 14 percent of children ride in cars completely unrestrained. REMSAs Point of Impact child safety seat inspection and replacement program regularly hosts checkpoints where safety seats are inspected for correct installation and usage. Car seats and booster seats found to be unsafe or on a national or manufacturers recall list will be removed, destroyed and replaced at reduced costs and/or free of charge to qualifying families. This program is funded in part from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. |
