February 15, 2002 - Scott Motors is set to host the REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority) Point of Impact child safety seat inspection and replacement program during the National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week. Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to correctly install and advise parents on proper installation. This weekend parents of children up to 8 years of age will have an opportunity to include their child (who participates in the car seat checkpoint) in a drawing for a free college education. Harrahs Tahoe and Harrahs Reno together will be donating one fully paid Nevada Prepaid Tuition contract to a child whose parents have participated in a child safety seat inspection in northern Nevada since January 2001. The Nevada State Treasurers Office will be at the checkpoint this weekend to help parents register their children. The drawing for the scholarship will take place the end of February. Note: Parents who come to future REMSA Point of Impact child safety seat inspections will have the opportunity to apply for upcoming scholarships. The Check Point will be held Saturday, February 16, 2002 from 11 a.m. 2 p.m. at the Scott Motors Car Lot, 2401 South Virginia in Reno. According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, approximately half of all parents are making a mistake when it comes to proper child restraints. Currently, 33 percent of all children 14 years of age and under are in the wrong kind of restraint for their age and size. In addition, 14 percent of children ride in cars completely unrestrained. This leads to extremely high rates of severe injury in accidents. Children who are riding with inappropriate restraints are three times as likely to be seriously injured in an accident when compared to children who were properly restrained. |
