QuickTime plug-in required REMSA's Paramedic Bike Team was created in an effort to optimize response time at large-scale outdoor events where access for ambulances is difficult. The team is frequently called upon to provide emergency medical support for outdoor community events, parades, and other large gatherings. Some of these events have included Hot August Nights, the Reno Tahoe Open, Burning Man, Sparks Farmer’s Market, the Reno Air Races, Star Spangled Sparks at The Sparks Marina, and the annual Rib Cook-Off. Each of the 3 teams of two are staffed with one Paramedic and one EMT-Intermediate. Each team, when deployed, is capable of providing Advanced Life Support Care and carry both basic and advanced life support supplies and equipment including an AED and ActiveECG. The teams respond much like a fully staffed and equipped ambulance unit to provide medical assistance to participants at the event they are covering as well as to businesses and motor vehicle accidents near their response area. Although an ambulance is always at any special event the bike teams work, the teams are able to call in another ambulance when they determine that a patient needs to be transported to a local hospital. Any business or organization in the community can request REMSA’s Paramedic Bike Team for their event or gathering by calling 858-5700. It is recommended that callers be ready to provide information about the specifics of their event or gathering to assist in our determining the best means to sufficiently staff the event and keep everyone safe.
