Northern Nevada Fitting Station

Non-use and misuse of child safety seats is a widespread problem in Nevada, and motor vehicle deaths remain the leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths among children ages 14 and under. Now there is a great new program to help address this growing problem.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety has awarded a three-year grant to fund a partnership that will implement and maintain a full-time child car safety seat inspection and fitting station. The Northern Nevada Fitting Station partnership includes Saint Mary's Maternal/Child Health Departments, Washoe Medical Center and the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA).

How it does it work?

The Northern Nevada Fitting Station has one nationally-certified full-time technician dedicated to providing parents and caregivers individualized tutorial instruction on the proper selection, use and installation of child restraints for their vehicles. In order to use the station clients are required to schedule an appointment. To schedule an appointment, please call 815-0981.

Are there any fees?

The Fitting Station operates on a sliding-fee scale. The full cost of installation and education is $45; additionally car seats are available for purchase. However we must install the car seat at the time of the appointment. The Northern Nevada Fitting Station offers a sliding-fee scale for both the installation and seat costs. In order to receive a reduced rate you will need to provide proof of income. In addition, some fees may be waived completely for those who qualify.

Where is the station located?

The Fitting Station is located at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, 305 Galetti Way in Reno, which cannot accommodate larger crowds of waiting vehicles. Please remember to schedule an appointment first.
