Care Flight began in 1981 as a shared program of Washoe Medical Center, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, and Northern Nevada Medical Center to provide fast, high-quality emergency medical service and rescue to the remote and rural areas of northern Nevada and northeastern California. In 1986, Care Flight was placed under the authority of the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority to create a comprehensive EMS system with fully integrated ground and air emergency medical services.

Care Flight is on stand by 24 hours a day, seven days a week with experienced critical care flight nurses, specially trained flight paramedics and skilled pilots to respond to the requests from public safety agencies, hospitals, physicians, or other health or public service organizations.

AStar-B3 series helicopters are used by Care Flight to provide strong high-altitude performance while also providing highly reliable aircraft for emergency medical transportation. Care Flight is operated by Air Methods Corporation.

Care Flight provides service within a 150-mile radius of our bases in Reno, Gardnerville and Truckee, which includes many high-altitude and rugged mountain rescue locations. With a cruising speed of 130 miles per hour, Care Flight can get critical care levels of services to severely injured or ill patients.

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems will conduct an accreditation site visit for:

The purpose of the site visit will be to evaluate the program’s compliance with nationally established medical transport standards. The site visit results will be used to determine whether, and the conditions under which accreditation should be awarded to the program.

CAMTS accreditation standards deal with issues of patient care and safety of the transport environment. Anyone believing that he or she has pertinent or valid information about such matters may request a public information interview with the CAMTS site surveyors at the time of the site visit. Information presented at the interview will be carefully evaluated for relevance to the accreditation process. Requests for public information interviews must be made in writing and sent to CAMTS no later than 5 business days before the site survey begins. The request should also indicate the nature of the information to be provided during the interview. Such request should be addressed to:

Office of the Executive Director
Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems
PO Box 1305
Anderson, SC 29622

The Commission will acknowledge such written requests in writing or by telephone and will inform the program of the request for an interview. The program will, in turn, notify the interviewee of the date, time and place of the meeting.

This notice is being posted or sent out in accordance with the CAMTS requirements and is intended to remain in place / in effect until the site visit is completed.
